Privacy Policy
Introduction
LiveCity (“LiveCity,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a location-based social activity and event discovery application (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you use the LiveCity mobile app, related features, and our public website at livecityapp.com (together, the “Service”).
By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. This policy should be read together with our Terms of Service.
We describe information practices in plain language. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the Service to run third-party advertising based on your activity in LiveCity.
Information We Collect
The information we process depends on how you use the Service, the features you enable, and the permissions you grant on your device. It may include:
Account and authentication information
- Information you provide when you create an account, such as email address and credentials used to sign in.
- Identifiers and authentication records maintained through our authentication provider.
Profile information
- Display name, username, email, and optional profile details such as home city.
- Other information you choose to add to your profile.
Activities and events you create or join
- Activity or event details you enter (for example, title, description, time, location, category, and visibility settings).
- Whether an activity is public or private, and related settings you control.
- Attendance, invitations, plans, and related social signals (such as who is “Going”).
Social and communications-related information
- Friend relationships, friend requests, and invitations you send or receive.
- Social “Going” information visible according to activity settings and your relationships.
- In-app notifications and related metadata (for example, type, timestamps, and read state).
Event status and media
- Photos, videos, text, and other content you post as event-related status.
- Audience settings for that content and seen/read state where the feature applies.
Location and live presence
- Precise device location when you grant location permission and enable LiveCity’s Location Sharing feature.
- Information our systems derive from location and participation to support geographic discovery and Event Presence (described below).
Device and push notifications
- Push notification tokens and related delivery metadata when you enable push notifications.
- General device and app information needed to operate the Service (for example, app version and platform type).
Operational and technical information
- Timestamps, logs, and similar metadata generated when you use the Service, needed to run features, maintain security, and troubleshoot issues.
You can choose not to provide certain information, but some features may not work without it (for example, geographic discovery without location permission, or push alerts without a notification token).
Location Information and Event Presence
Location is central to how LiveCity helps people discover activities and how certain live features work. This section explains how location is used and what others can see.
When we collect location
LiveCity may collect precise device location when you grant location permission on your device and enable Location Sharing in the app. If you disable Location Sharing or revoke location permission, we stop collecting location for those features, though some non-location parts of the Service may still work.
How location is used
- Geographic discovery. Location helps show public activities and map experiences relevant to where you are or where you are browsing.
- Event Presence. For eligible participants at an existing activity or event, location may be used to evaluate whether they are physically near that event.
What Event Presence is — and is not
Event Presence is tied to a specific user-created activity or event. It is not a general public map of where individual users are, and turning on location by itself does not create a public activity or a generic public “people density” signal.
- Only eligible participants can contribute to Event Presence for an event — for example, the organizer, a linked host, or someone who is a canonical “Going” attendee, as determined by our participation rules.
- Our backend evaluates whether eligible participants are near the event location using location information associated with their account and participation.
- The public map may show a sanitized, event-level presence or intensity signal for that event.
- That public Event Presence output does not expose individual participants’ GPS coordinates, identities, or an exact participant count.
Private events and restricted information
Information about private activities remains subject to authorization rules in the Service. Event Presence and map signals are designed so that private event details and participant-level location are not exposed to the public in the ways described above for public, sanitized event-level signals.
Storage and processing
To operate Location Sharing and Event Presence, we process and retain location-related information on our systems for as long as needed to provide these features, enforce participation rules, and maintain the Service. We do not claim that precise location is never stored; limited retention and processing on our backend is part of how verification and discovery work.
How We Use Information
We use information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service, including accounts, profiles, activities, maps, and social features.
- Enable public and private activities, attendance, invitations, friend features, and plans.
- Deliver in-app and push notifications you enable.
- Process event status content and media according to your audience choices.
- Support geographic search, discovery, and Event Presence as described in this policy.
- Protect the security and integrity of the Service, including detecting abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
- Communicate with you about the Service (for example, important updates or support-related messages when contact channels are available).
How Information Is Shared
We share information only as described below. We do not sell personal information.
With other users, according to your settings and the feature
- Profile information you make visible to others.
- Public activity details, attendance signals, and social “Going” information where visibility rules allow.
- Event status content shared with the audience you select.
- Sanitized, event-level Event Presence signals on the public map, as described above — not individual live GPS feeds.
With service providers
We use third-party providers that process information on our behalf to operate the Service. They are permitted to use information only as needed to provide their services to us. Key providers include:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database and file storage, backend and cloud functions, push-related infrastructure, and website hosting.
- Geoapify — geographic search, autocomplete, and place or boundary-related functionality.
These providers may process information in data centers in various locations according to their terms and our configuration.
For legal, safety, and enforcement reasons
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process; to protect the rights, property, or safety of LiveCity, our users, or others; to investigate fraud or security issues; or to enforce our terms and policies.
Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate protections.
Public and Private Activities
LiveCity lets you create public or private activities. What others can see depends on visibility settings, your role (organizer, invitee, friend, or general user), and feature rules.
- Public activities may appear in discovery experiences, on the map, and in social contexts according to product rules. Details you mark public are visible to others as intended by the feature.
- Private activities are meant to stay restricted to authorized participants. Access to details, attendance, and related content is controlled by authorization logic in the Service.
- Choosing public visibility for an activity or status means you understand that information may be seen by people beyond your friends.
Service Providers
We rely on service providers to host infrastructure, authenticate users, store data, run backend logic, deliver notifications, and support map and place search. They process information under our direction to provide the Service. We do not authorize them to use your personal information for their own unrelated advertising purposes.
Provider practices may also be described in their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review those policies if you want more detail about how those companies handle data.
Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, fulfill the purposes described in this policy, and meet our legal, security, and operational needs. Retention periods vary by data type and context.
- Account and profile information is kept while your account is active.
- Activity, social, notification, and media data is kept while relevant to the feature and your account, subject to deletion when you remove content or close your account where applicable.
- Location and live-presence-related data is kept for as long as needed to operate Location Sharing, Event Presence, and related safety and troubleshooting, consistent with your settings.
- Some information may be retained longer where required by law, for dispute resolution, fraud prevention, security, or backup integrity, even after deletion requests.
We may anonymize or aggregate information so it no longer identifies you, and we may use that information for Service improvement and analytics about overall usage patterns.
Your Choices and Controls
You have several ways to control information in LiveCity:
- Profile. Update display name, username, and optional profile fields in the app where those settings are available.
- Activity visibility. Choose public or private settings when creating or managing activities, where the product offers that choice.
- Location Sharing. Enable or disable Location Sharing in the app and manage location permission in your device settings.
- Push notifications. Enable or disable push notifications in the app and in your device notification settings.
- Event status audience. Select who can see event status content when you post.
- Social features. Manage friend requests, invitations, and attendance choices through in-app controls.
If you revoke permissions or disable features, some functionality may be limited until you change settings again.
Account Deletion
We plan to offer a way for you to request deletion of your LiveCity account as part of our V1 experience. That capability may not yet be available in the app at the time you read this policy; when it launches, in-app or documented instructions will describe how to submit a request.
When account deletion is available, we intend it to work roughly as follows:
- You may request deletion of your account through the process we provide.
- Deletion may be blocked while you own active activities; those activities will need to be ended or canceled first.
- We will delete or otherwise clean up applicable account, profile, and social data associated with your account, and delete your authentication account, subject to technical and legal limits.
- Some information may be retained where we are required or permitted to keep it — for example, for legal compliance, security and fraud prevention, dispute handling, or other legitimate legal purposes.
Until self-service deletion is available, you may use the contact method in Contact Us below to ask about privacy-related requests. We will respond as our processes allow.
Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information — such as requesting access, correction, deletion, or portability, or objecting to or restricting certain processing. Laws vary by jurisdiction, and not all rights apply in every location.
LiveCity has not completed jurisdiction-specific compliance programs for every region. If you believe you have rights under applicable law, contact us using the information in Contact Us. We will consider your request in line with applicable law and our current capabilities.
We may need to verify your identity before responding. We may also decline requests that are unfounded, repetitive, or would adversely affect the rights of others or our ability to provide the Service securely.
Children’s Privacy
LiveCity is not intended for children under 13 years of age, and the Service is not directed to children in that age group. You must be at least 13 years old to use LiveCity. If applicable law in your country or region requires a higher minimum age to use the Service or to consent to our processing of personal information, you must meet that higher age requirement instead.
We do not verify date of birth when you create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone we know is below the applicable minimum age. If you believe someone who does not meet the applicable minimum age has provided personal information to LiveCity, please contact us using the information in Contact Us. We will take appropriate steps to review and address the report.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for activity under your account. Please use a strong password and notify us through Contact Us if you believe your account has been compromised.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice (for example, in the app or on this website).
Your continued use of the Service after an updated policy is posted means you accept the updated policy, to the extent permitted by law. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
